Gerard Ashworth interview now in the archives.

Gerard draws himself with his favourite creation.

I was invited to speak to Gerard Ashworth at the 2009 Comic Book Funny series of events put on by David Blumenstein (http://www.nakedfella.com/) which were held at Trades Hall during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. After posting the audio on his own website David has given me permission to pop it in TheComicSpot archives.

Gerard Ashworth is an immensely intriguing and somewhat elusive figure in the Australian comics scene. His striking, intense, energy packed comics blew me away when i was first turned to them. I must say that i was a little nervous prior to meeting him because of his reputation for being somewhat erratic and taking no prisoners. But once we'd had a pre show chat I was ready to go on stage with him and go head to head. Thanks to Gerard for being so open and honest about his mind, his work, his struggles, his opinions and thanks once again to David Blumenstein for asking me to do it in the first place.

Enjoy.

Neale Blanden, Jase Harper episode in the archives.

The episode went to air in Jan but if you missed it you can download or listen again at thecomicspot.podomatic.com or on the player on this page.

Joining John, Jo and Bernard is Jase Harper and Neale Blanden.

Two great cartoonists with their own distinct voices. Uncle Neale has done the hard yards in the alt comix scene and shares his knowledge as a lecturer at Holmesglen TAFE with the yoof of the nation. Jase harper has recently made the move to Melbourne from the seedy Brisbane scene and is flexing his illustration and comix muscles in a new town.

A lively hour of good comix talk.

To never miss an episode subscribe to DIYArts on iTunes or TheComicSpot for the archive (sometimes featuring web only eps)

And don't forget to listen live on 855AM in Melbourne or streaming at 3CR.ORG.AU on Thursdays at 5pm.
