First of all it was remiss of me last entry to not to say a huge THANK YOU to all of the 3CR supporters who called during our radiothon to pledge support for the program and the station. We raised half of our annual total in that one hour. CHEERS!!
DIYArts and TheComicSpot will be holding an art auction later in the year to raise the rest. I'll fill you in on the details when the time comes.
If you couldn't call and feel like adding a few bucks (all tax deductible!) to our coffers to help keep the station going you can do it here.
Also. I'll be adding a longish Sydney Supernova post over the next couple of days. I'm also editing the audio i gathered for next week's Sydney Supanova special to go to air. Flat out at work this week with the school holidays on their way so excuse the brevity.
Cheerio.

In Sydney
I'm in Sydney for a couple of days talking to people about the feasability of ressurecting some form of Australian comics awards. Talks last night went well. There should be some sort of announcement today about where this is heading.
Stay tuned for more.
Also i happened to come into the harbour city during the Sydney Biennale. I spent hours meandering around the Museum of Contemporary Art yesterday and i'd forgotten how much i loved the MCA and contemporary art in general. It pleased me no end to see some artists using comics or elements of the form to express themselves. I took a few snaps and when i'm home and not in a hostel i'll post what i saw. Saw some fantastic video installations as well. Ahhhhh..harbour city....cheers.
Off to Supanova out at Olympic Park now to meet some peeps and do a bit of recording for the show.
Catch ya later!

Tuesday Tidbits (on a Saturday!)
A busy week at work and a planned daily blog in the run up to next week's Radiothon show on 3CR mean i'm doing things a little different this time round.
Send in the comics.
From Anthony Woodward's facebook page "Just finished my last day at the State Library cataloguing zines. I will be starting to help catalogue their comic collection very soon! Send me your Australian or New Zealand comics if you would like them to be included!"
Go hard or go home!
Radiothon.

All next week i'll be blogging with prizes you can win and goodness you will receive if you support 3CR during our radiothon program. Tune in at 5pm on Thursday 17 June. Once a year we work to raise money to keep the station on air. Without 3CR there would be no program about Australian Comics. They support us and now it's our turn to support them.

SLV from the air. Imagine your comics for the ages. What will people in 150 years think of them?

Dylan Horrocks episode now in the archives.
The cover of the second edition of Hicksville and a self portrait from Dylan.
Melbourne was lucky enough to host Dylan Horrocks at the end of April. He attended the Supanova Expo before leading a week long masterclass at The Wheeler Centre for books, writing and ideas and featuring at the Spotlight on Graphic Novels weekend held at the centre.
Dylan Horrocks joined TheComicSpot to discuss his great book ‘Hicksville’, his wider comics lifestyle and muse over copyright in the post internet landscape. We had a great time with Dylan and hope to have him on again in the future to discuss the New Zealand comics scene.
Listen or download here and don't forget to subscribe to DIYArts or TheComicSpot on your podcatcher.

Tuesday Tidbits and this weeks program.
More Tuesday Tidbits and a bit of info on this weeks show.
Animator and cartoonist Mirranda Burton is our guest on Thursday. Listen to the show at 3CR -5pm on 855am in Melbourne, streaming online at 3CR.ORG.AU, or subscribe to the DIYArts podcast on your podcatcher.
Mirranda will be talking to Jo Waite, Bernard Caleo and myself about her recent award win and trip to Switzerland. We'll also be reviewing the 'Blood and Thunder' anthology and a range of other comics. Hope you can join us.
Five Wounds landed in TheComicSpot's pigeon hole at 3CR recently. It's an illustrated novel from publishers Allen and Unwin. I'll talk about it on the next program and a copy of Five Wounds will be given away as part of our Radiothon show on the 17th June. Might even talk to the creators. Cheers to A+U for the copy.
Dean Rankine has popped onto my radar again recently when he popped onto Facebook. It's good to hear from him again. I've always enjoyed his comics and his take on Christianity. Pop along to his webcomicsnation page and enjoy the plethora of goods on offer.
Nicki Greenberg was unable to attend the Wheeler Centre weekend focus on the graphic novel but she did however point people to a video prepared for them - here.
And following posting the talk between myself and Gerard Ashworth recorded by David Blumenstein at last years Comic Book Funny event i've found links to many of his hard to find works here. Have a read and then listen to the conversation here.
