We get letters.

TheComicSpot loves getting mail. You can send us your minicomics, comics, comix, graphic novels, book comics, journals, fanzines, zines, discs, USBs or iPads and we'll look at them!

Young Neale has done just that. Well done Neale.

This is the address you can all use - decoration of envelope optional but preferential.

Our new favourite portrait of TheComicSpot team (including three legged dog).

Spin your head sideways and see the gients get pilloried.

Two new zines from Neale makes TheComicSpot very happy.

A handwritten letter on personal letterhead makes the delivery all the more special.

For more beautiful art go to Neale Balnden's blog. You can also listen to when Neale was on the show.

Cheers to Neale B.

Tuesday Tidbits

A few things...

1. You can download the most recent program RIGHT NOW if you didn't catch it live. NZ Comics focus. The progran was triggered after I read this Dylan Horrocks comic about Barry Linton.

2. This week's program is a grab bag of a few things not quite locked down yet but the following two weeks will feature interviews with Caanan Grall (Jan 21), whose works can be found at www.occasionalcomics.com...

The Comic Fu is strong in this one.

AND THEN...

The Prince of Denmark.

...we'll be speaking to Nicki Greenberg (Jan 28) about her Hamlet and probably about her children's books too. Really looking forward to both these interviews.

3.  Check out comicsreporter.com for some great interviews. Tom Spurgeon runs great in depth interviews with comics creators and people associated through comics. Out of this holiday series of interviews i've enjoyed the ones with Jaime Hernandez, Dylan Horrocks, Daren White, James Sturm, Dirk Deppey and Daniel Clowes. There;s a whole raft of them here.

4. Do you know about www.comicscomicsmag.comThis was a great read. "The mark you make is the mark you see".

Ciao!

Got to pick up a booklet or twoooooo.

Pardon my bad Apu pun.

Saturday was a good comicking day. I discovered a new artist and I was given a treat from an established one.

At the regular monthly creators meet (rescheduled to the Retreat in Brunswick from the Alfred in Carlton - the garden at the Retreat was very good and if it became a regular haunt i wouldn't complain) I had brief conversation with Colin Wilson about podcasts and Hellboy and comicky stuff when he reached into his bag of tricks and passed me this little cracker...

Obviously it was the right way up when he gave it to me.

An opening page featuring the Batman in a sewer...noice, moody, lush.

Another great pic that I particularly like for the expression on Han Solo's face.
Poor Harrison can't emote like that anymore.

...full of sketches, mini pin ups and amazing detail as you'd expect from Colin. An unexpected pleasure. A sort of a sketchbook self pulished mini from one of the great NZ cartoonists who now calls Melbourne home. Beautiful work Colin and thanks. Then it was off to a vacant block 50metres off Brunswick St in Fitzroy for the launch of Brain Furniture...

The cover of Brain Furniture.

...and what an absolute delight. Sam Wallman has self produced and published this collection of strips, cartoons, sketches and observations all garnered whilst in Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Isreal and Palestine.

 A favourite spread.

Political and personal.

Seeing truth in quiet places.

I love finding out about comickers like Sam and discovering well thought, well drawn, well bloody done material. I'll endeaver to get Sam on TheComicSpot in the not to distant future to talk about it.

In the meantine, go here and grab a copy from Sam directly. 90pgs for $10!! Do yourself a favour.

Cheers.
