Yet another Batman in Melbourne.

Did you know Melbourne has a new vigilante?

It's an Aboriginal guy in a rocket suit who is in essence a franchisee of Bruce Wayne in his new guise as the global Batman gallavanting around the world installing Bat related heroes whereever he goes. All according to DC comics and the latest issue of Batman Inc.

I wonder if writer Grant Morrison is aware of the first time the Kulin people of Victoria had dealings with a Batman?

The allusion here is that the wealthy clientele of a busted slave ring is on the run from the MelBats(What should own own deputised Batman Inc hero be called?) and Bruce Wayne Batman after exiting from Crown Casino! I knew that place should never have been built.

Also Bruce - give our guy a hand with his digs. It's full of cardboard boxes! Where is his Batputer and Bunjil bike?

Then again looking at the stencilled Batman Inc logo on the wall i would say he's probaly living in an artists warehouse in Fitzroy or Northcote!

From Batman Inc. Issue 6.

Bits for you.

Bruce and Bernard reherse their piece of kamishibai set to music for comic campers.

J Marc Schmidt's blog led me to a new site - called VIVIDSCRIBE - which will feature some comics related articles. Go check out J Marc's piece and the whole shebang here.

NMIT is having a festival of Animation, Comics, Graphic Novels and Moving Image. 10-12 May. Looks very interesting. More here.

Alternate Worlds ( it used to be my comic shop of choice when i used to buy dozens of superhero comics a month back in the 90s and when they had a store in Camberwell) is closing it's Chapel St store and moving further into the eastern suburbs. Talks of reducing overheads to compete with online competitors. My gut feeling is that they may just fade from view all together. I should feel more passionate but overall i'm one of the reason these guys probably aren't doing so well anymore. I buy my comics from the creators directly as much as possible or from publishers websites or from the lowest price retailer. Bobby N reacts here and the Noncanonical podcast talk about it here.

Ciao.
